B.: (1803-1891) American Lawyer & Inventor of the coal fired parlour heater, made of cast iron, known as the Latrobe Stove (or 'Baltimore Heater'). A.L.S., Jno H B Latrobe, one page, 4to, Annapolis, Maryland, 27th January 1830, to Jonathan Meredith. Latrobe states that no petition has been presented that day and that McMahon had advised him that none had arrived either, further informing Meredith that 'I have continued to day the course, which I told you in my last letters I pursued, in making our statements known, in consideration to the statements derived from B- , or others;- and the opinions of the favourable situation, which we now occupy here, expressed in my letter yesterday, are confirmed', continuing to refer to a patent Petitioner and advising 'The letters are the only difficulties - and even then, standing unexplained, if you please, are not sufficient evidence to authorise the interference of the legislature', before concluding 'I endeavour, in what I say here, to make them appear as instruments only in the hands of malice, believed to be unworthy of weight by the very party who would use them'.
