HAUPTMANN RICHARD: (1899-1936) German-born Carpenter and Criminal who was convicted of the abduction and murder of the young son of aviator Charles Lindbergh and his wife Anne Morrow Lindbergh. 'The Lindbergh Kidnapping' became known as 'The Crime of the Century'. An extremely rare vintage signed and inscribed sepia 7.5 x 9.5 photograph of Hauptmann seated in a three quarter length pose, smiling, apparently within the court rooms during his infamous trial. Signed in ink to the image, 'To my good counsel Egbert Rosecrans, sincerely, Bruno Richard Hauptmann', largely across a darker area and with weaker contrast and some fading. Autographs of Hauptmann are rare in any form and signed photographs are exceptionally so, the present example enhanced by an interesting association. Neatly trimmed to the right white border and with some light overall surface creasing, G £2000-3000 Egbert Rosecrans (1890-1948) American Lawyer, a member of Hauptmann's defence counsel in his trial for the abduction and murder of Charles Lindbergh's young son.
