SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL: (1581-1660) French Catholic Priest. Venerated both in the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. Canonized in 1737 by Pope Clement XII. Vincent de Paul is known for his humility and for serving the poor. Extremely rare L.S., `Vincent de Paul I[ndigne] P[retre] D[e] l[a] M[ission]´, (''Vincent de Paul, Unworthy Priest of the Mission''), with a five lines holograph annotation by Saint Vincent de Paul at the conclusion, stating in part `.. I have just received your latest. In reply I would say that you did well seeing..´, on the last year of his life, one page, 8vo, Paris, 29th October 1659, to Monsieur Cabil, in French. The written text is in the hand of Saint Vincent de Paul´s secretary Bertrand Ducournau, and states in part `The grace of Our Lord be with you for ever. I cannot attend Mr. Michel´s request to assist Madame his Mother.. Mr. Michel has written to me saying that it is absolutely necessary in order to prevent this good mother from being ruined...´ further referring to a parcel, saying `I send to you a parcel for Mr. Lambin. I beg you make it be delivered specifically to one of those persons to whom it is addressed. I pray Our Lord.´ With blank address leaf. Small overall age wear, with small worm holes to the front page, only affecting few words of the letter, but not affecting the signature or the holograph text. F to about G £5000-8000
