A good L.S., ` Charles de Motz´, three pages, folio, Magdeburg, 18 th August 1809, to General Michaud, Governor of Magdeburg, in French. The letter bears at the heading a printed coat of arms and the title Kingdom of Westphalia. Motz refers to the bands which have been created with soldiers leaving the Oels corps, stating ` ..these soldiers are running through the department, and we are all concerned about public security..´ Motz requests 50 cavalry soldiers to help to expel these foreigner soldiers joining the bands, and explains he doesn´t have enough military strength and troops to control this situation with wounded soldiers leaving the hospital once recovered to join the bands. The letter bears an attractive watermark. With addressee to the fourth page, bearing a good red wax seal of the Kingdom of Westphalia. Small area of paper loss to the fourth page, not affecting the text or signature. Folded. G The bands Motz refer to were formed with the remaining troops, abandoned soldiers or wounded or in hospitals, shortly after their defeat in the Wagram battle.
