FOCH FERDINAND: (1851-1929) - FOCH FERDINAND: (1851-1929) French General, a Marshal of France who distinguished himself as the Supreme Allied Commander on the Western Front during World War I. A good vintage signed 9.5 x 7.5 photograph of Foch in a full-length pose, wearing his full dress uniform and holding the baton of a Marshal of France, riding on horseback during the Peace Day Parade in London on 19th July 1919. A group of soldiers can be seen saluting at his side. Signed ( ´F. Foch´ ) with his name alone in dark fountain pen ink to a clear area at the base of the image. Neatly laid down to an oblong folio page removed from an album and with an ink annotation in the hand of a collector to the upper and lower borders of the mount. Scarce in this form. A few light, minor surface creases, otherwise about VG The Peace Day Parade was a huge celebration marking the end of World War I following the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. As the Supreme Commander of the Allied Armies, Foch rode on horseback at the head of the international procession alongside British Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig and American General John J. Pershing. Foch led nearly 15,000 Allied troops past the newly constructed temporary Cenotaph on Whitehall and down the Mall, saluting King George V at Buckingham Palace.
