SCHWEITZER ALBERT: (1875-1965) - SCHWEITZER ALBERT: (1875-1965) Alsatian theologian, musician, philosopher & physician, Nobel Peace Prize winner 1952. Vintage signed and inscribed 4 x 5 paperstock image of Schweitzer in a half-length profile pose wearing his white pith sun helmet whilst seated in a traditional wooden pirogue canoe and accompanied by a local African man who stands further up in the canoe, handling a long wooden oar. Signed and inscribed by Schweitzer in French in blue fountain pen ink to the lower white border and dated 2nd January 1955 in his hand. VG The present photograph was taken on the Ogooué River near Lambaréné, Gabon , the location of the humanitarian hospital village founded by Schweitzer.
