BONNARD PIERRE: (1867-1947) & SIGNAC PAUL: (1863-1935) - BONNARD PIERRE: (1867-1947) French painter, a leading figure in the transition from Impressionism to Modernism & SIGNAC PAUL: (1863-1935) French Neo-Impressionist painter. Ink signatures by both Bonnard and Signac individually to the verso of a picture postcard, the image to the recto depicting the apse of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière at Lyon, also bearing a number of other signatures and brief messages, including Signac´s daughter, Ginette, the Lyon painter Antonin Ponchon (1891-1965) who was a co-founder of the Salon du Sud-Est, the French art critic, collector and publisher George Besson (1882-1971) etc. Addressed by Besson to Henri Béraud and postmarked at Lyon, 8th May 1926. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, otherwise VG Henri Béraud (1885-1958) French novelist, journalist and art critic, born in Lyon, who played a prominent role in the city's literary and artistic life before establishing his career in Paris. An enthusiastic advocate of modern painting, he supported the Lyon avant-garde group Les Ziniars, which included Antonin Ponchon, and moved within a wider circle of progressive artists, writers and critics encompassing figures such as Pierre Bonnard and Paul Signac. Béraud was awarded the Prix Goncourt in 1922 and became one of the most celebrated French journalists and literary personalities of the interwar years.
