PINKERTON WILLIAM ALLAN: (1846-1923) - PINKERTON WILLIAM ALLAN: (1846-1923) American detective, the elder son of Allan Pinkerton and, with his brother Robert, director of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency (founded by their father), which they developed into one of America's foremost private detective and security organisations. Bold black ink signature ( ´William A Pinkerton´ ) and date, 11th June 1913, in his hand to the recto of a colour picture postcard featuring a reproduction of a painting of the Amsterdam Hotel in Amstel and published by Raphael Tuck & Sons as part of their Oilette series. With a brief A.L.S. , William A. Pinkerton , to the verso, in full, ´I herewith give you my autograph as per your request´ . Addressed in the hand of the collector to the right panel of the verso and also annotated ( ´The Detective´ ) in their hand to the base of the recto. VG
