THE DIRTY DOZEN The Dirty Dozen – all twelve together in an extraordinary signed cast rarity - THE DIRTY DOZEN: An extremely rare vintage multiple signed and inscribed 9 x 8 promotional photo card issued for the MGM release of the classic World War II action film The Dirty Dozen (1967), by all twelve actors who portrayed Major Reisman's unruly band of twelve convicted soldiers, an assortment of hardened criminals, rebels and misfits gradually transformed through training into an effective and resourceful fighting unit, comprising (in their roll-call order) John Cassavetes (Victor R. Franko), Tom Busby (Milo Vladek), Jim Brown (Robert T. Jefferson), Donald Sutherland (Vernon L. Pinkley), Ben Carruthers (Glenn Gilpin), Clint Walker (Samson Posey), Charles Bronson (Joseph Wladislaw), Colin Maitland (Seth K. Sawyer), Al Mancini (Tassos R. Bravos), Trini Lopez (Pedro Jiminez), Stuart Cooper (Roscoe Lever), and Telly Savalas (Archer J. Maggott), the image depicting the condemned military prisoners gathered together outdoors in full-length poses. Signed by each in red inks to the image, largely across lighter areas, a few also adding inscriptions in their hands. The upper white border of the recto incorporates a printed caption, ´Twelve condemned GI´s.....They´re THE DIRTY DOZEN.....They´re led by.....´ , and the verso features a good close-up portrait of actor Lee Marvin , in costume as Major John Reisman, the tough, rebellious and unconventional U.S. Army officer charged with training the Dirty Dozen for a dangerous mission behind enemy lines, signed and inscribed by Marvin in red ink across a light area, ´To Marie, Lee Marvin´ . Also signed by three further actors , included in a cast list printed to the verso, comprising Richard Jaeckel (Sergeant Clyde Bowren), Robert Ryan (Colonel Everett Dasher Breed), and Robert Phillips (Corporal Carl Morgan). An extraordinary rarity from one of the defining war films of the 1960s: even unsigned examples of this MGM promotional card are seldom encountered, while the present example bears no fewer than sixteen cast signatures, including the complete Dirty Dozen and Lee Marvin , and is the only multiple signed example that we have encountered. Some light creasing and minor age wear, about VG Provenance: The present promotional card was signed for Marie, the girlfriend of Barry Cole, a British stuntman and body double who worked on Robert Aldrich's film The Dirty Dozen.
