LUMIERE AUGUSTE: (1862-1954) - LUMIERE AUGUSTE: (1862-1954) French engineer, industrialist, biologist, and illusionist who, with his brother Louis, invented a successful animated photographic camera and projection device known as the cinematograph. Ink signature ( ´A Lumiere´ ) and six-line autograph sentiment, ´avec l´expression de ses sinceres remerciements pour l´aimable accueil qu´il a bien voulu réserver à la 1er edition de cet ouvrage et en signe de son très cordial dévouement´ (Translation: ´expressing his sincere thanks for the warm reception given to the first edition of this book, and as a token of his warmest regards´ ) on a small 8vo page, evidently neatly removed from a book, and dated 7th August 1931 in his hand. Matted in red alongside a colour photograph of Lumiere in a head and shoulders pose to an overall size of 11 x 8.5. One slight crease, only slightly affecting the date, VG
