FOUCHÉ JOSEPH: (1759-1820) Convention Deputy and Minister of Police. L.S., Le Duc D´Otrante, one page, folio, Paris, 7th April 1810, to the Minister of war, on the Police Générale printed stationery, in French. Fouché states in part `Monsieur the Duke, Sieur Walter Boyd, an English former Banker in Paris, requests a passport to travel to Norway, where he has important affairs to sort out. He has explained that having been deprived of his fortune because of war, and having spent all his patrimony, he cannot continue maintaining his family.´, further saying `I kindly ask your Excellence to give order to check if Sieur Boyd do not have to be considered any more as a war prisoner, and give me your opinion regarding the request of this foreigner.´ Also signed to the left border by General François Nicolas Fririon (1766-1840), Chief of Staff under Marshal Massena, acknowledging receipt on 10th of April and forwarding the Minister´s order. The document bears a red ink stamp to the heading and an attractive Pro Patria watermark. Folded, with very small overall minor age wear and left edge very slightly irregularly trimmed.
