BESSIERES JEAN-BAPTISTE: (1768-1813) Marshal of France, Duc d´Istria. Killed in the battle field in Rippach, the day before the battle of Lutzen. Rare A.L.S., `Bessieres´, three times, one at the head, one page, 4to, Paris, 16th July [1804/1805], to Mr. Raguideau, Napoleon´s Notary in French. Bessieres is in charge of supplying the funds authorized by Napoleon, reporting on the Emperor´s decision to grant the following gratifications and states in part `His Majesty´s wish is to grant two hundred francs of allowance for Cesar his coachman, fifty francs to M. Jardin one of his squires..´ At the base of the document Bessieres lists the figures, showing 500 francs for Etienne Marie Jardin (1777-18?), serving Napoleon since 1800.
