STROESSNER ALFREDO: (1912-2006) President of Paraguay 1954-89. Stroessner leaded an army coup in 1954, and his 35 years rule is one of the longest worldwide and the longest in South America. He governed as a dictator, keeping the country and civil liberties under a permanent state of siege, torturing and killing political opponents. In 1989 he was overthrown in a new military coup d´état. A good signed and inscribed 4.5 x 7 matte-finish photograph by Stroessner, the image showing the Paraguayan dictator seated, in a formal half-length pose, dated in Asuncion, 25th March 1975. Signed and inscribed in bold black ink to the lower white border. With very small remnants of former affixing to the verso, otherwise VG £80-120
