RINDT JOCHEN: (1942-1970) German racing Driver who represented Austria during his career. Winner of the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans. The only driver to have been posthumously awarded the Formula One World Driver´s Championship. Rindt died at the very early age of 28 in a car crash at the Monza racing circuit. Signed 4 x 6 photograph, the image depicting Rindt wearing his Lotus racing overalls. Signed in bold blue ink across the image. Matted in black, beneath a 7 x 4 colour photograph showing Rindt driving his Formula one racing car, to an overall of 8 x 12. With very small pinholes to the photograph corners. G £400-600 Rindt found at Lotus a competitive car, although he was often concerned about the safety of the notoriously unreliable Lotus vehicles. He had a very successful 1970 season, mainly racing the revolutionary Lotus 72, and won five of the first nine races. In practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, he spun into the guardrails after a failure on his car's brake shaft. Rindt was killed owing to severe throat injuries caused by his seat belt. As his closest competitor Jacky Ickx was unable to score sufficient points in the remaining races of the season, Rindt was awarded the World Championship posthumously.
