CASALS PABLO: (1876-1973) - CASALS PABLO: (1876-1973) Spanish cellist, composer and conductor. A.M.Q.S., Pablo Casals , one page, 8vo, n.p., 1930. To a page neatly removed from an autograph album the cellist has penned one bar of music, apparently from a composition by Johann Sebastian Bach. Evidently executed at some speed, numerous small ink blots from the nib of Casals´s fountain pen are scattered across the quotation. VG In 1890, when he was 13, Casals discovered a tattered copy of Bach's six Cello Suites in a second-hand music store in Barcelona. He spent the next thirteen years practicing them every day before he would perform them in public for the first time, and today Casals is perhaps best remembered for the recordings he made of Bach´s Cello Suites.
