BUDDHIST PALM LEAVE BOOK: A very attractive ancient handwritten book with Buddhist religious text, 8 x 1.5, 58 pages, written to both sides, on 30 palm leaves. Bound with a coeval cord, with tide extremes, two wood cases with engravings of the Qianlong period, dating from 1736 to 1796, entitled ''Tantri Ati Darma (Quarto Libre)'', written in bold dark ink in Pali or Thai. Palm leaf books tradition is lost with the advent of printing presses. They were made on Palmyra and Talipot palm leaves, long up to 5 meters, which, after being boiled in a mixture of herbs, were then cut and pressed. This process meant that they could endure hundreds of years even in hot and humid environments. Very small age wear, otherwise VG £400-600
