[SHAKESPEARE]: (1564-1616) English Poet and Playwright. Widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. Unusual woven silk bookplate, 1.8 x 9.5, issued in 1864 on the occasion of the tercentenary of Shakespeare´s birth. The bookmark bears vignettes of showing the bard in a half length pose, beneath the heading ''Shakespeare Tercentanary 1864'', and below the text ''Shakespeare - He was a man take him for all in all we shall not look upon his like again''. Also showing an image of his birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, above the text ''Shakespeare´s birthplace''. A very attractive ornate bookplate. Original frame, in wood, and glazed to an overall of 5.5 x 13.5. Small staining, otherwise G £150-200
