WORLD WAR II - WORLD WAR II: An original telex issued by Major General Daniel Noce, one page, 4to, Allied Force Headquarters, 7th May 1945, to the 15th Army Group (as well as British and American delegations in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Albania), numbered copy no. 249, and marked as a Confidential Outgoing Message of priority. The document was issued following the signing of the first German Instrument of Surrender at General Dwight D. Eisenhower´s headquarters at Reims and states, ´At 0241 hours 7th May, a representative of the German High Command signed the unconditional surrender of all German land, sea and air forces in Europe to the Allied Expeditionary Force and simultaneously to the Soviet High Command. All forces under German control are to cease active operations at 0001B hours 9th May´ . Some light creasing and minor age wear, a small, neat tear to the right edge, and one small staple hole to the upper edge. About VG Daniel Noce (1894-1976) American Lieutenant General who planned and oversaw the engineer effort that supported military operations in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations 1944-45. On 7th May 1945 General Alfred Jodl had signed the German Instrument of Surrender at Reims in France, however it was not recognised by the Soviet Union, which demanded among other things that the act of surrender should take place at the seat of government of Nazi Germany from where German aggression had been initiated. Therefore, another document needed to be signed. In addition, immediately after signing the first document, the German forces were ordered to cease fire in the west and continue fighting in the east. Karl Donitz, as the German head of state, agreed to the Allied suggestion to sign a new document. The document was signed at the seat of the Soviet Military Adminstration in Berlin by representatives from the German Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW), the Allied Expeditionary Force represented by the British, and the Supreme High Command of the Soviet Red Army, with further French and American representatives signing as witnesses. This time Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel was the highest ranking representative of Germany at the signing ceremony. This surrender document also led to the de facto fall of Nazi Germany.
