VERDI GIUSEPPE: (1813-1901) Rare Autograph Musica Quotation signed by Verdi from Falstaff"
VERDI GIUSEPPE: (1813-1901) Italian Composer. A rare and excellent A.M.Q.S., `G. Verdi´, a bold ink signature, with small ink stain beneath, one page, oblong 8vo, Paris, 12th April 189?, in Italian. Verdi has penned a three bars quote of music which he identifies from his opera Falstaff (1893) to the upper left corner. Verdi also adds beneath the musical quote the lyrics, `Quand'ero paggio del Duca di Norfolk´ (''When I was a page to the Duke of Norfolk''), in his hand, from the opera Falstaff, a well-known aria of the second act. A very desirable signed quotation. Bearing to the third page of the 8vo bifolium, removed from an autograph album, a statement by Camille (?), dedicated to Dully Prudhomme. Veri small age tone, with left edge showing traces of former binding to the autograph album. G to VG
Falstaff is a comic opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. The libretto was adapted by Arrigo Boito from Shakespeare´s The Merry Wives of Windsor and scenes from Henry IV. Premiered in February 1893 at La Scala of Milan. Falstaff was Verdi´s last opera.
