DUMAS ALEXANDRE: Père (1802-1870) French Writer whose works include The Three Musketeers. An interesting A.L.S., signed twice, `Al. Dumas´, one page, 8vo, blue grid paper, Paris, 16th October 1865, to Xavier de Lasalle et Mélan, Editors of the Parisian journal El Correo de Ultramar for the overseas Spanish speaking languages, in French. Dumas sells the right of publishing his new novel Le Comte de Moret in Spanish but of Spain, stating to the heading `La propriété exclusive en langues espagnoles est accordée pour Paris´ (Translation: "The exclusive ownership in Spanish languages ​​is granted for Paris"), and beneath his first signature, Dumas states `Il est convenu que je vous cède le droit de publication du Comte de Moret dans tous les pays de la langue espagnole, excepté l’Espagne que je me réserve positivement. Et cela moyennant deux cent cinquante francs par volume que vous me paierez le jour oú le volume sera livré au journal. J’ai reçu aujourd’hui le prix du premier volume!´ (Translation: "It is agreed that I grant to you the right of publication of the Count of Moret in all Spanish-speaking countries, except Spain, which I positively reserve for myself. And this for two hundred and fifty francs per volume, which you will pay to me on the day the volume is delivered to the journal. I receive today the price of the first volume!") Le Comte de Moret was published in the journal Les Nouvelles in 1865 and 1866. It was not published in bookstores during Dumas' lifetime, and was reissued in the 20th century under the title Le Sphinx Rouge ("The Red Sphinx")
