HUGO VICTOR: (1802-1885) French Poet & Novelist of the Romantic Movement. A fine A.L.S., Victor Hugo, one page, small 8vo, n.p., n.d., `Saturday´, to a woman, in French. Hugo deeply thanks his unidentified correspondent for her letter which has deeply touched him, and explains the feelings and thoughts it causes to him, stating ` Votre noble et touchante lettre, Madame, si remplie de sentiments élevés et purs, me va au coeur, et j´ai besoin de vous en remercier. Elle ne saurait me causer que de la joie, et pourtant elle éveille en moi des pensées de tristesse...´ (Translation: " Your noble and touching letter, Madam, so full of high and pure sentiments, goes to my heart, and I need to thank you for it. It should only cause me joy, and yet it awakens in me thoughts of sadness...") Further Hugo refers to such feelings ans promises to explain them to his correspondent on the next occasion he will meet her, saying ` Je vous les dirai la première fois que je serai assez heureux pour vous voir´ (Translation: " I will tell about them to you the first time I will be happy enough to see you.") With blank integral leaf. Overall small age wear with light staining. Very small professional repair to the verso to the the spine. G
