OFFENBACH JACQUES: (1819-1880) German-born French Composer, Cellist and Impresario of the Romantic period. A.L.S., ` Jacques Offenbach´, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d. ` Wednesday 7th´, to Monsieur Gilles, rue Duperré, on his personal stationery paper, in French. The letter bears to the upper left corner Offenbach´s blind embossed initials "J.O", and states ` Mon cher ami, venez avec moi, même malade, je viens du chemin de fer de Strasbourg - et on me donne un compartiment pour moi tout seul. Donc, vous serez complètement à votre aise, et je vous soignerai. Oui n´est-ce pas - c´est samedi que l´on joue... nous arriverons pour la 1ere´ (Translation: " My dear friend, come with me, even sick, I come from the Strasbourg railway - and I am given a compartment all to myself. So, you will be completely at your ease, and I will look after you.
