Solzhenitsyn writes, in part, ´Congratulations on your victory and sincere thanks to you and your assistants for having removed that obstacle from me with your talent and persistence. I highly esteem your friendly support and the sympathy toward me which was also expressed in the statement of your services´, and continues to ask if the decision will be sent verbatim from the court, before concluding ´In gratitude I am sending you a check and within a few days will send one of my books´. Edward Bennett Williams (1920-1988) American lawyer and businessman. At the request of Solzhenitsyn, Williams had assisted in defending the Russian journalist and imprisoned dissident Alexander Ginzburg in 1977. Ginzburg was released and expelled to the United States in 1979, along with four other political prisoners, as part of a prisoner exchange.
