Hugo addresses to his correspondent Porcher in the third person, stating `J´aurais à entretenir Monsieur Porcher d´une petite omission sur la note qu´il a bien voulu m´envoyer. S´il pouvait prendre la peine de passer chez moi un de ces soirs entre sept et huit heures, je serais charmé de le voir, et nous causerions.´ (Translation: "I would have to talk to Mr. Porcher about a small omission in the note he kindly sent me. If he could take the trouble to come to my house one of these evenings between seven and eight o'clock, I would be delighted to see him, and we would chat") With address leaf in Hugo´s hand. Postmarked to the address leaf. Small overall creasing, light stain not affecting the signature, with left edge and spine slightly repaired. G

Jean-Baptiste Porcher (1792-1864) and his wife were French Theatrical Agents who used to purchase copyrights and ticket passes for their authors, later reselling them at the entrance doors of theatres. Porcher founded the Agence du Droit d´Auteur ("Copyright Agency"). He very often advanced money to Dumas and other artists, sometimes keeping some manuscripts in pledge.
