A.L.S., ` D. Artôt de Padilla ´, four pages, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to an unknown singer, on attractive printed stationery featuring a small colour image of a bird to the upper left corner, in French. Artôt refers to a singer who stayed at her home and states to her correspondent `...elle me dit qu´elle a chanté ”Faust” avec un très grand succès. ? Est-ce vrai? quant à moi je ne crois pas que sa voix puisse résister aux fatigues du theatre - lorsqu´elle est venu chez moi la voix était complètement cassée, mais lorsque je l´ai refusée son désespoir a été si grand que par pitié j´ai consenti à la faire travailler, ... quoiqu´à mon avis une voix brisé(sic) ne se remet jamais complètement...´ (Translation: ”She tells me that she sang the ”Faust” with great success?
