PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924) - PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924) Italian Composer. A fine A.L.S, G. Puccini , four pages, 4to, Viareggio, 26th April 1922, on his personal printed stationary, to Maria Bianca, in Italian. Puccini writes from the countryside to his correspondent in Rome and refers largely to his Inno a Roma (1919), stating in part ` Carissima Maria Bianca, fra i pini si sta meglio che a Roma - Ci fui ieri per poche ore, volevo venire a salutarla (l´ebbi nell´animo) ma mi fu impossibile - mi sembró una serra di scarponi di Inglesi e Americani - ...´ (Translation: ” Dearest Maria Bianca, it is better to be among the pines than in Rome - I was there yesterday for few hours, I wanted to come and greet you (I had it in my heart) but it was impossible - It seemed to me to be in a greenhouse of British and American boots...”) Further Puccini refers to the Inno a Roma (”Anthem to Rome ” or ” Hymn to Rome ”), saying in part ` Per l´inno a Roma nessuno ne parla piu, neppure l´editore neppure l´autore - solo la dolce principessa se ne rammenta! Ed io le sono molto grato di questo - Scriveró a Sonzogno perché me ne mandi una bozza - non poté stampare al pubblico perché mancavano strofe di poesia - e mai fu domandato al poeta Salvadori di completarle. Ma bisogna bene ch´io trovi il modo di servire il desiderio gentile dell´augusta ricordatrice...´ (Translation: ” Regarding the anthem of Rome, no one talks about it anymore, not even the publisher, not even the author - only the sweet Princess remembers it! And I am very grateful to you for this - I will write to Sonzogno in order to get a draft - it could not be printed for the public because some verses of poetry were missing - and the poet Salvadori was never asked to complete them. Small minor creasing, otherwise VG Maria Bianca Ginori-Lisci (1897- ?) daughter of Puccini´s friend Marquis Carlo Ginori-Lisci, the dedicatee of La Boheme, who granted Puccini hunting rights on his neighbouring estate. Inno a Roma (June 1919) (Anthem/Hymn to Rome) is an Italian patriotic hymn dedicated to Rome, composed in 1919 by Giacomo Puccini, with lyrics by Fausto Salvatori, who was inspired by Horace's ”Carmen saeculare”. This work itself, written by the Roman poet Horace, was commissioned by the Roman emperor Augustus in 17 BC. Maria Bianca Ginori-Lisci (1897- ?) daughter of Puccini´s friend Marquis Carlo Ginori-Lisci.
