MICHAEL ALEXANDROVICH ROMANOV: (1878-1918) Russian Grand Duke. Youngest son of Emperor Alexander III and brother of Tsar Nicholas II. Assassinated by the Bolsheviks. When Nicholas II abdicated on 15 March 1917, Michael was named as his successor, however, he deferred acceptance of the throne until ratification by an elected assembly. Rare and very attractive signed sketch by a very young twelve years old Michael, being a greetings sent to his Swiss tutor Ferdinand Thormeyer. To the verso of an attractive colour printed postcard Michael carefully pens in bold black fountain pen ink `Happy new year, Michel´ in French, and draws beneath a flourish with four little persons walking towards the new year 1891. Adding also alongside a fine ink drawing showing a sailboat. EX £1000-1500
