KELLERMANN FRANÇOIS ETIENNE: (1770-1835) French General. Son of Marshal François Christophe
KELLERMANN FRANÇOIS ETIENNE: (1770-1835) French General. Son of Marshal François Christophe Kellermann. Widely considered the ablest Napoleon´s cavalry commanders, he distinguished himself at the Battle of Austerlitz leading the light cavalry. An interesting L.S., `Le Gral Kellermann´, one page, 4to, Valladolid, 10th March 1810, to a soldier´s mother, in French. Kellerman states in part `Madame, I hasten to inform you that I have been officially reported that your son has escaped from Cadix to Tanger, and that he has returned now to Caunil [Conil], where he has encountered French troops, and I hope to see him in eight days.´ With blank address leaf, bearing a red ink stamp and a red wax seal. Overall creasing with few foxing stains, not affecting the signature, and very small corner area of paper loss to the address leaf. G £150-200 Kellermann refers to one of the French soldiers who leaded the well-remembered evasion from the Spanish pontoon anchored in the harbour of Cadix.
