BERTHIER LOUIS-ALEXANDRE: (1753-1815) Marshal of France, Prince of Neuchatel. Chief of Staff under Napoleon. Rare A.L.S., Berthier, two pages, 4to, Versailles, 19th September 1790, to Guignard de Saint-Priest, in French. Berthier, in his capacity as General of the Versailles National Guard, reports having received his correspondent´s letter that `I will not neglect anything in order to restore the command in the King´s properties. I request once again the return of 200 men from the Flanders regiment...´ further concluding `..also very necessary for the maintenance of the King´s properties, we cannot do so only with the chasseurs..´ Autograph letters of Berthier of this period are particularly rare and desirable. With blank integral leaf. Very small and clean professional repair to the verso to the centre fold. VG £250-350 François Emmanuel Guignard (1735-1821) Count of Saint-Priest. French Statesman, Diplomat and Minister. Secretary-Minister of the King Louis XVI, and first Minister of the Interior. Only few weeks before the present letter was written took place the mutiny of the Nancy garrison. The King´s Minister fears similar insurrections all over the country.
