Saint-Saens states in part `I did not want to respond to you before having been to the opera to get news. The news are not favourable to our projects; the debut of Mr. Gayarre is announced for the 19th, and that time we will then take seriously in charge the performance of Henry VIII..´ A letter of interesting content with watermark. Few small pinholes not affecting the text or signature. VG £100-150 Julian Gayarre (1844-1890) Spanish opera Singer. Creator of the role of Enzo in Ponchielli´s opera La Gioconda (1876) Henry VIII (1883) is an opera by Saint Saens based on The Schism of England by Spanish author Calderon de la Barca.
