V ZWEIG STEFAN: (1881-1942)
ZWEIG STEFAN: (1881-1942) Austrian Novelist, Playwright, Journalist and Biographer, and himself a passionate collector of autograph manuscripts. An interesting autograph letter signed by Zweig related to Zweig´s autograph collection. A.L.S., ` Stefan Zweig´, two pages, 8vo, Salzburg, n.d. [shortly after 1914], on his personal printed stationery, to Mr. Charavay, in French. On a letter bearing to the upper left corner a monogram with Stefan Zweig initials, Zweig asks his correspondent and autograph dealer Charavay, to send again his catalogues to him, stating ` Cher Monsieur Charavay, il y a plus d´une année que je m´adressais à vous avec la demande de m´envoyer tous vos catalogues de vente et vos catalogues à prix fixe à partir du Août 1914. Vous avez eu la bonne intention de le faire, mais la poste n´acceptais pas le paquet, comme à cette époque les relations postales n´étaient pas encore entièrement reprises...´ (Translation: " Dear Mr. Charavay, more than a year ago I addressed a letter to you with the request to send me all your sales catalogues and your fixed price catalogues from August 1914. You had the good intention of do so, but the post office did not accept the package, as at that time postal relations had not yet been fully retaken...") Further Zweig insists in getting the catalogues to complete his collection, saying ` J´aimerai aussi de recevoir de nouveau vos catalogues de vente. I would also like to receive your sales catalogues again. Finally the difficulties of sending money between our countries are over: I hope to have the opportunity to restart our old regular communications. “The autograph amateur” has not yet appeared, to my great regret! I have the almost complete collection from 1865 until 1914, everything that appeared, I am only missing 2 publications..") Small overall creasing with an extremely small area of paper loss to the bottom left corner, not affecting any written word. G
