KUTUZOV MIKHAIL: (1745-1813) Prince Mikhail Golenishchev-Kutuzov-Smolensky. Field Marshal of the Russian Empire. He served as a military officer and a diplomat under the reign of three Romanov Monarchs. Kutuzov was shot in the head twice while fighting the Turks and survived the serious injuries. He defeated Napoleon as commander-in-chief in the patriotic defence of Russia in 1812. Tsar Alexander I, wrote that he would be remembered amongst Europe's most famous commanders and that Russia would never forget his worthiness. A good L.S., `Prince Koutouzoff Smolensky´, one page, folio, Lyck, Poland, 8th January 1813, to Prince Dolgorukov, in French. The present letter is signed by Kutuzov only three months before passing away. My Prince, I have the honor to send to you herewith a copy of the letter which I address to General York, in response to the note which he gave you. Your Excellency will see there the measures which were adopted following his complaints. This new state of affairs puts an end to your mission and I urge you, my Prince, to join your military corps") With blank integral leaf.

Kutuzov refers to Prussian General Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg (1759-1830) who commanded during the Russian campaign troops as allied of France but who would later abandon Macdonald´s French regiments and agreed neutrality with the Russian.
