BERTHIER LOUIS ALEXANDRE: (1753-1815) Marshal of France, Prince of Wagram and Neuchatel. Chief of Staff under Napoleon. A very attractive D.S., Alex Berthier, one page, folio, Paris, 3rd November 1801, to Lieutenant Populus, in French. The document bears to the heading a very large and attractive republican vignette, with the printed motto "Liberté - Egalité - French Government", being a commission for the appointment of Aide-de-camp issued by the war departmentan. Berthier, in his capacity as Minister of war, appoints Lietenant Populus from the 11th regiment of Hussards, as aide-de camp to General of Brigade Musnier. bearing to the upper right part of the document a blind embossed seal.
