[ROBESPIERRE MAXIMILIEN]: (1758-1794) French lawyer and statesman, one of the most influential and controversial figures of the French Revolution. MERDA CHARLES-ANDRE (1770-1812) Baron Meda. French General de Brigade who participated in the arrest of Robespierre on 27th July 1794 and claimed to have fired the pistol shot which broke Robespierre's jaw. A.L.S., Le Colonel Meda, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to a comrade, in French. Meda expresses his regret and not having been able to see his correspondent and hopes that they will be able to have the pleasure of taking lunch together next week, concluding by attaching some notes (no longer present) that had been requested and remarking 'Je souhaite qu'elles vous satisfassent' (Translation: ' I hope they satisfy you').
