MANSTEIN ERICH VON: (1887-1973) German Field Marshal of World War II, Knight's Cross winner with Oak Leaves and Swords. T.L.S., v Manstein, Feldmarschall, one page, oblong 8vo, n.p., 13th March 1958, to [Stephen] Bumball, the World War II autograph collector, in German. Manstein states that he will send his correspondent a signed photograph for their collection, although declines to sign an article from the newspaper Die Welt, explaining 'It would be rather strange if I were to sign an article in which I am praised in this way myself'. Accompanied by an unsigned 4 x 6 postcard photograph of Manstein in a close-up head and shoulders pose wearing his uniform and Knight's Cross. VG, 2
