[BATTLE OF BRITAIN]: CURRANT CHRISTOPHER 'BUNNY': (1911-2006) British Wing Commander, a fighter pilot and flying ace (credited with at least 15 victories) of the RAF during World War II who participated in the Battle of Britain. Portion of a D.S., C F Currant, one page, oblong 8vo, n.p., n.d. The document was signed by Currant whilst serving with 605 Squadron and originally formed part of a Combat Report, the typed text stating, in part, 'I looked below and saw 40 to 50 Me.109's flying N.W. at 23,000 ft with a wide vic of 5 enemy aircraft leading and the rest straggling behind. I informed the Squadron of the position of the enemy aircraft......and commenced to dive on to the leading enemy aircraft (coming straight out of the sun). Just before we got in range the enemy aircraft saw us and turned sharp left and split up, some diving away S.E. and others climbing and circling. I attacked the leader of the vic with a diving beam......Bits flew off the enemy aircraft, which rolled over and dived straight down South and disappeared below the clouds.....Another Me.109 came into my sights and I gave a full deflection beam attack at 200 yards......I then had to take violent evasive action as Me.109's were behind and above. During thie evasive action at 25,000 ft. I noticed that the Me.109 was turning almost as steeply as I was......Before I could get into attacking position, the enemy aircraft dived away and I could not catch it on the dive'. Signed by Currant at the base and countersigned by John A. Milne (1915-2007) Canadian fighter pilot of World War II who participated in the Battle of Britain. VG
