MACINNES COLIN: (1914-1976) English novelist, remembered for his London Trilogy including Absolute Beginners (1959), which was made into a film in 1986. A.L.S., Colin MacInnes, two pages, 8vo, Great Portland Street, London, 30th June 1961, to Tom Maschler. MacInnes writes, in part, 'My elder - & much cherished - brother, Graham McInnes, has told me that his agent will be sending you some TSS to consider. I write only to ask that you kindly promote these from the base of the In Tray to somewhere nearer your eye...& also to say that, in the event of publication, anything I can do to advance my brother's literary fortunes, I mst gladly will......Graham being a Canadian diplomat - & by their protocol not encouraged to use his own name - the TSS will be submitted with a pseudonym'. Tom Maschler (1933-2020) British publisher who, from 1960, was head of the publishing company Jonathan Cape for more than three decades. Maschler was also instrumental in establishing the Booker Prize in 1969.
