BLYTON ENID: (1897-1968) English children's writer. A.L.S., Enid Blyton, one page, 8vo, Russell Square, London, 30th September 1953, to Barbara, on the printed stationery of Enid Blyton's Magazine. Blyton states that she has heard that her correspondent is ill in hospital and hopes that she will be better soon, further remarking 'I am glad that you are one of my F[amous] F[ive] members - and I hope you like our serial, and do our puzzles' and also explaining 'Mummy wrote and told me about you - wasn't it nice of her? I had my younger daughter, Imogen, in hospital for many weeks, and she enjoyed it very much & was happy there - so I hope you are too! Get better soon! I will write you plenty more books. I send you a photograph with my best love'. Together with the vintage signed and inscribed 5 x 7 photograph referred to, the image depicting Blyton in a smiling head and shoulders pose. Signed ( 'Barbara - love from Enid Blyton') in fountain pen ink to the lower photographer's mount. Signed photographs of Blyton are scarce and desirable. The body of the letter is uniformly age-toned, although the text remains perfectly legible, and the printed letterhead remains the original colour, although with some traces of former mounting. The photograph is neatly trimmed to the edges of the mount and has similar uniform age toning, the faults all evidently caused by the previous framing of the letter (with the letterhead not visible) and photograph together.
