DAY-LEWIS CECIL: (1904-1972) Anglo-Irish poet who was Poet Laureate 1968-72. A.L.S., C. Day Lewis, one page, 8vo, London, 4th November 1965, to Tom Maschler, on the printed stationery of the publishers Chatto and Windus Ltd. Day-Lewis thanks his correspondent for their telegram which had reached him shortly after arriving home the previous evening, remarking 'I do think it was awfully nice of you to send it'. Together with a second, brief A.L.S., Cecil, one page, 8vo, Crooms Hill, Greenwich, London, 11th September n.y., to Tom [Maschler], stating, in full, 'I'll gladly sign the limited edition for B. Tom Maschler (1933-2020) British publisher who, from 1960, was head of the publishing company Jonathan Cape for more than three decades. Maschler was also instrumental in establishing the Booker Prize in 1969.
