Beauvoir informs her correspondent that she never provides prefaces, and certainly couldn't promise one for a book that she hasn't read, further remarking 'Le chapitre sur les pompiers est un amusant reportage mais ne permet pas de juger l'ensemble de l'ouvrage. Envoyez-le moi quand il sera termine et je vous dirai ce que j'en pense' (Translation: 'The chapter on firefighters is an amusing report but does not allow us to judge the work as a whole. Send it to me when it's finished and I'll let you know what I think'). VG
