SARGENT JOHN SINGER: (1856-1925) - SARGENT JOHN SINGER: (1856-1925) American artist, considered the leading portrait painter of his generation. A.L.S., John S. Sargent , to two sides of his correspondence card, Tite Street, Chelsea, 17th December n.y., to Mr. Westacott. Sargent commences his letter stating 'I have lost the card of the gentleman who asked me in your office to recommend a miniaturist, and I must beg you to be so kind as to give him the following name: Mrs. Eastman' , further providing her address in West Kensington and remarking 'I have made enquiries of several artists, but only one of them could name any miniaturist. He said that this lady had given satisfaction to some one he knew' . VG
