MARIE OF SAXE-ALTENBURG: (1818-1907) Queen of Hanover 1851-66 as the wife of King George V, the last King of Hanover. A.L.S., Marie, Reine de Hanovre, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to Madame la Marechale, on attractive monogrammed stationery, in French. The Queen thanks her correspondent for having thought of them in regards to a party the following day, however remarks ‘Mais l'etat de sante du Roi, quoiqu'ameliore beaucoup, grace a Dieu!, nous preoccupe encore trop pour que nous osions assister a des fetes’ (Translation: ‘But the King’s state of health, although much improved, thanks be to God!, still worries us too much for us to dare attend parties’). The Queen concludes by sending their sincere regrets and expressions of best wishes to her correspondent and their husband. With blank integral leaf. VG
