PEARY ROBERT: (1856-1920) American Rear Admiral and explorer who claimed to have been the first to reach the geographic North Pole with his expedition in April 1909. A good, bold fountain pen ink signature ( ‘R E Peary’) and date, 29 th May 1913, in his hand to the verso of a 12mo printed admission ticket for a ‘Séance en l'honneur de l'amiral Peary’ (Translation: ‘Meeting in honour of Admiral Peary’) organised by the Societe de Geographie de Geneve at the Amphitheatre de l’Athenee on 31 st May 1913 and at which Peary was presented with the Arthur de Claparede gold medal. A couple of very minor, slight ink blots to the signature. VG
