SHARPEY WILLIAM: (1802-1880) Scottish anatomist and physiologist, known as the ‘father of British physiology’. A.L.S., W Sharpey, one page, 8vo, Burlington House, London, 8th July 1867, to Edward William Brayley, on the printed stationery of The Royal Society. Sharpey writes regarding the printing of one of his correspondent’s papers, remarking ‘I have to explain that the committee of papers at a meeting held on the 27th ulto. “referred” the question, for consideration and report, and dictated that, in the mean time, only the title should appear in the forthcoming number…’ With blank integral leaf. Together with Richard Owen (1804-1892) English biologist and palaeontologist who coined the word Dinosauria. A.L.S., Professor Owen, in the third person, one page, 8vo, British Museum (London), 26th January 1867, to Dr. Notherley &c. Owen presents his respects to the President, Vice-Presidents and Council of the Hunterian Society and ‘accepts with pleasure the invitation with which he has been honoured to dinner at the London Tavern’. Some slight traces of former mounting to the upper edge of the verso. VG, 2
