Verne, in his usual very small and clean writing sends his condolences to his correspondent, stating ` J´ai appris hier le malheur qui vient de frapper Mme Lengelle et vous. Mme Verne et moi nous vous adressons à tous deux nos sincères condoléances…´ (Translation: “ I learned yesterday of the misfortune that has just struck Mrs. Lengelle and you. Mrs. Verne and I send you both our sincere condolences…”) Verne further says ` Je crains que ma santé ne m´empêche de me rendre à l´enterrement de votre bébé…´ (Translation: “ I fear that my health will prevent me from going to your baby's funeral.. “ Accompanied by the original envelope, addressed in Verne´s hand, postmarked and stamped.
