Alma-Tadema thanks his correspondent for their kind note and ‘thought of sending me the Riviere volume’ , remarking ‘One can never see enough of the work of that sympathetic artist’ , further adding ‘We have quite made friends with your doctor. He is a charming fellow & a thorough Doctor, although he has not allowed me as yet to cross the threshold of the Marine Hotel & so I remain prisoner until further notice’. With blank integral leaf. Together with Alma-Tadema’s personal printed oblong 12mo visiting card (unsigned) and another of his wife with a holograph sentiment at the head, ‘with kind regards & best wishes for the New Year’ .
