ALMA-TADEMA LAWRENCE: (1836-1912) Dutch-born English painter. A.L.S., L Alma Tadema, one page, 8vo, Ventnor (although on the printed stationery of Grove End Road, St. John’s Wood), 29th October 1890, to Mr. Huish (?). Alma-Tadema thanks his correspondent for their kind note and ‘thought of sending me the Riviere volume’, remarking ‘One can never see enough of the work of that sympathetic artist’, further adding ‘We have quite made friends with your doctor. He is a charming fellow & a thorough Doctor, although he has not allowed me as yet to cross the threshold of the Marine Hotel & so I remain prisoner until further notice’. With blank integral leaf. Together with Alma-Tadema’s personal printed oblong 12mo visiting card (unsigned) and another of his wife with a holograph sentiment at the head, ‘with kind regards & best wishes for the New Year’.
