MAGRITTE RENE: (1898-1967) Belgian surrealist artist. A.L.S., Rene Magritte, two pages, 8vo, Rue des Mimosas, Brussels, 15 th December 1961, to 'Chere Madame et Cousine', in French. Magritte thanks his cousin for her letter and information about her family, remarking 'J'ignorais qu'elle etait venue en Belgique lors de la revolution francaise et qu'elle s'appelait alors: Margueritte' (Translation: 'I did not know that she had come to Belgium during the French Revolution and that her name was then: Margueritte') and further reflecting on the possible reasons for desiring a change in the name. The artist also adds that he and his wife would be pleased to meet if his correspondent ever comes to Brussels, and equally they would be happy to visit her in Jumet, although this would not be possible until next January.
