[HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1934-45. An unusual piece of emperor brown marble, with various mottling and hues, originally a part of Adolf Hitler’s personal desk within the Reich Chancellery in Berlin during World War II, with a polished finish to the top (fashioned into an ashtray following its removal from the Reich Chancellery), measuring approximately 5 x 4.5 x 2 inches. A scarce World War II relic. VG

Provenance: Accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by the vendor stating, in part, ‘The piece of marble….which is the subject of this lot was removed from the Reich Chancellery in July 1945 by Brigadier Malcolm Macrae Simpson (1896-1974) who, at that time, was the Deputy Director of Supplies & Transport at the British War Office. He took the piece of marble back to the UK and eventually gave it to his son Colin Malcolm Macrae Simpson (1931-2017). In 1983 Colin and I were working with the London Sunday Times…..It was during this time that Colin Simpson gave me the marble and told me the story. He explained that his father had mentioned that it was a small section of the desk Hitler had used…..’

Please note that the image of Hitler's upturned desk and associated caption are for illustrative purposes only and are not included in the lot.
