BENEDICT XIV: (1675-1758) Pope of Roman Catholic Church 1740-58. Benedict XIV was a beloved Pope, a polymath, and one of the greatest Vatican scholars who laid the groundwork for the present Vatican Museum. A good L.S., ` Cardinale Lambertini´, with few holograph words in his hand, one page, 4to, Bologna, 22nd September 1734, to the Archbishop of Ravenna, in Italian. Benedict XIV, in his capacity as Archbishop of Bologna, states in part ` In conformità della compivissa lettera di vostra illustrisima delli 18 scorso, avendo il signor Dominico Maria Canzacchi pagato li vendi cinquanta a conto della pensione, che godo sopra la vendita di cotesta sua chiesa…´ (Translation: “ In accordance with the letter of your most illustrious, dated 18th of the present month, having paid Mr. Dominico Maria Canzacchi, I sell you fifty on account of the pension, which I enjoy for the sale of this church of yours…”) With annotation to the address leaf bearing the remittent information.
